R2 software
R2 Responsible Recycling (R2v3). A certification for electronics recyclers and refurbishers covering downstream vendors, data security, focus materials and more.
Who it’s for
Electronics recyclers and refurbishers who need to show responsible handling of equipment, data and hazardous materials.
Edition notes. R2v3 expects a separately certified environmental, health and safety management system (for example ISO 14001 with ISO 45001, or RIOS). Requirement numbering differs between public sources, so none is shown. Confirm the current rules with SERI.
What you still need
The official standard from SERI (sustainableelectronics.org (SERI)), and — if you want a certificate — an accredited certification body to audit you. Total ISO helps you build, run and evidence the system; it doesn’t grant certification.
What Total ISO gives you for R2
Each requirement area below maps to a screen in the app. Your “Requirements” page shows what’s in place and what’s still to do. Coverage for R2: full requirements map with purpose-built records.
Scope and facility
Define the facility, what it does, and which R2 appendices apply to those activities.
In the app: Facilities & Settings → Standards
Hierarchy of responsible management strategies
Prefer reuse, then recycling, then recovery, with disposal last, and be able to show how material was managed.
In the app: Material flow
Environmental, health and safety management system
Operate an EHS management system (certified separately: ISO 14001 + 45001, or RIOS). These records support it.
In the app: Aspects, hazards, emergency plans
Legal and other requirements
List the laws, permits and other requirements that apply and keep them current.
In the app: Compliance register
Tracking throughput
Track material in, through and out of the facility.
In the app: Material flow
Sorting, categorization and processing
Documented, controlled processes for sorting and processing. File procedures under “Procedures”.
In the app: Documents
Data security
A data security plan covering devices that may hold data. File it under “Data security”.
In the app: Documents
Focus materials
Identify focus materials and materials of concern and manage them safely, with documented downstream routes.
In the app: Focus materials
Facility requirements
Facility-level requirements such as a closure plan. File it under “Closure plan”.
In the app: Documents
Transport
Record shipments, with reference numbers and cross-border movements.
In the app: Material flow
Training and competence
People are trained for the jobs they do.
In the app: Training matrix
Internal audit
Audit your system at planned intervals.
In the app: Internal audits
Management review
Management reviews the system.
In the app: Management review
Corrective action
Investigate and correct nonconformities.

Appendix A — Downstream recycling chain
Qualify and monitor the downstream vendors that receive your material.
In the app: Downstream vendors
Appendix B — Data sanitization
Sanitize data on devices by documented methods and verify the result.
In the app: Data sanitization log
Appendix C — Test and repair
Test and repair equipment to documented procedures with records.
In the app: Test & repair log
Appendix D — Specialty electronics reuse
Procedures and records for specialty electronics reuse. File under “Appendix D”.
In the app: Documents
Appendix E — Materials recovery
Record material you process on site.
In the app: Material flow
Appendix F — Brokering
Procedures for brokering. File under “Appendix F”.
In the app: Documents
Appendix G — Photovoltaic modules
Procedures for handling PV modules. File under “Appendix G”.

R2 appendices apply to the activities you perform (downstream recycling chain, data sanitization, test and repair, and so on). You choose yours in Settings and only those appear.
Working to more than one standard?
Most requirements overlap, so you enter things once. One risk register, one set of documents, one audit programme, one corrective-action process — shared by every standard you choose. Your plan includes one standard; each extra is a simple monthly add-on (see pricing) — $40/month for R2 when it isn’t your included one. Try them all free during the trial.
Mapping follows R2 (R2v3) as publicly described. Clause numbers appear only where we are confident of them. Standards are revised periodically; check which edition your certification body audits against. ISO is a registered mark of the International Organization for Standardization. Total ISO is not affiliated with or endorsed by SERI.
